In reply to Gail boone. I would contact Whirlpool -- you may need a new compressor. But it might be cheaper to get something new.

Our freezer won’t stay at 0 degrees. We have replaced the seal,thermostat and a cpl other things. Works for a cpl weeks and back to 20-30 degrees. Idk what to do at this point.

We have had a Freezerator for several years now – 10+ – and have loved it, but this ice build-up situation has been ongoing for most of those years. It’s clearly a design flaw and I’ve had to have someone come out every 12-18 months to clear the drain. One tech even tried to run some kind of wire down the tube to keep water from freezing. I kept having it repaired because I loved the product, but most recently the tech told us that the compressor is starting to fail so I think we’ll finally have to part ways. So disappointed because it’s been great to have a garage freezer with a small fridge for extra milk, eggs and soda. It’s a great concept!

Update: We saw an abrupt increase in the humidity in the freezer in January (from 50-60% to 80%), and started to see ice building up again. Defrosted again, but was able to just use a bit of hot water on top of the fridge pan to get the ice to melt and hear it dripping again. Still took over 6 hours this time (it initially seemed to be done faster, but really wasn’t).

Update #1:
We realized that the reason the Delay thing kicked in was because the *fan* would start to run, but there was then not enough power to turn on the *burner* to actually create heat. It worked just fine for the A/C, which was a bit of a confounder.
Update #2:
About a week later, I got the HVAC folks to come out and run new wires to replace the 50+ year old wires. The same technician came out and noted that he had installed 3 Nest thermostats in the intervening time! And it’s working perfectly now, a couple of weeks later.
