Original House

Original House

We bought the house in April 2002,  It was build in 1949, and still had some of the original inspection certificates stapled to the studs in the garage.

The house on inspection day.
The front porch had been enclosed many years ago, enlarging the living room and dining room. The windows were reset in the new front wall.
At some point the sink and countertops were replaced. And the garbage disposal and dishwasher are (fortunately) on a separate circuit.
This is the original Roper gas stove. It has four (!) pilot lights. We’re trying to see if we can get re-lighting pilots for it.
One of the bedrooms had hardwood… and so did the others and the living room, as our realtor Sue Fick shows here.
Someone’s idea of decoration… this was considered the headboard in this bedroom.
The toilet’s been replaced… it’s basic white, while the sink and tub are a yellow that matches the trim on the tile wainscoating. The pink/yellow combo is definitely late 40’s. The medicine cabinet, with three-part mirror, was build into a stud space.
The garage door is the original. And it’s heavy… and it won’t stay up without a ladder or other prop.
This is the original setup for the water heater and dryer, both gas. The pipes in the upper right are a bit odd… they don’t seem to actually be attached to the water heater. Maybe a (long gone) water softener?
Although the three-way switch on the garage light is nice, the switch hanging from the wires is not. This is the original knob-and-tube. The box should have been mounted on the stud.
These are the original inspection certificates from 1949.
